A couple of weeks ago, I wrapped up my spring semester internship at Dragonfruit AI, an Enterprise Video AI Startup focused on video storage and analytics in the cloud. Overall, it was a rewarding, unique experience — here’s a quick recap.

Rather than working on a single big project, I built multiple features, all of which were deployed to production for customer demos in the coming weeks. The entirety of my work took place in Dragonfruit’s Occupancy Management System (OMS), where customers utilize AI-powered spatial analytics to view insight reports and visualizations on occupancy, wait times, queue lengths, dwell times, etc.

As a developer working on the OMS and PoC features, it was important that my code not only worked but was also scalable, maintainable, and well-tested — all within tight deadlines. This accountability and ownership drove my interest, teaching me to learn quickly and work efficiently. With the full support of the team engineers, I always felt comfortable asking questions and working towards the ultimately successful outcomes.

Overall, I found the culture of Dragonfruit to be incredibly collaborative and encouraging. In fact, CEO Amit Kumar, met with the intern class every Friday morning for open Q&A. Through these sessions, we learned about the inner workings of building a startup and gained advice about navigating career and life interests. It was a world-class experience, and I highly encourage anyone interested to reach out to the team and apply!
